Dirt

Dirt is very common in maps, making up the top layers between grass or snow and the stone underground. It is also found underground in clumps and appears in all layers.

A dirt block that is next to a grass block and exposed to sufficient light (level 9 or above) can change to a grass block.

Although dirt can be mined by hand, the tool of choice is a shovel. It is mostly used for landscaping and farms.

Using a hoe, dirt can be converted to farmland.
