Roses (Red Flowers) appear in randomly spawned clusters on grass blocks.They also occasionally appear when Bone Meal is used on grass blocks. They are rarer then Yellow Flowers (Dandelion).

Roses can be collected in one hit and placed in a crafting grid to create 2 units of Rose Red dye. When planted in complete darkness (e.g. surround by blocks on all sides), the flower will pop out of the ground.
