Sapling (Birch)

An important Minecraft resource, saplings are used to grow trees that have been harvested. Birch Saplings drop from leaves of Birch trees, decaying after all wood has been removed from a Birch tree.

Birch and pine saplings were introduced in Beta 1.5

A Birch sapling can be planted on a dirt of grass block (only grass will grow a tree in Creative Mode). The Birch sapling will eventually grow into a tree when exposed to a light level of at least 9 and when there are at least 7 empty block above and 5 empty blocks around the sapling (note that regular and Pine saplings have different demands).

If Bone Meal is added a sapling will immediately grow into a tree if these conditions are met, although it can take multiple Bone Meal to grow a tree.
