As promised Jeb has released Minecraft 1.2. This introduces all the changes made in the snapshots and a lot of bug fixes. Most notable changes include a new world format (Anvil), a new biome (Jungle) , new mobs (Ocelot, Cat and Iron Golem) and a new AI.

Update: Since the initial 1.2.1 release, Jeb has released 2 bug fix releases (1.2.2 and 1.2.3)

The features

  • new map format Anvil, allows building to a height of 256 (was 128)
  • Jungle biome
  • New mobs: Ocelot (found in Jungle biomes), Cat (tamed Ocelot) and Iron Golem (town defense)
  • New blocks: redstone lamp and circle stone brick.
  • New textures: dispenser and oak sapling
  • New items: fire charge and bottle of enchanting
  • Very rare desert wells can be found in deserts
  • Slabs and Stairs can now be placed upside down by placing them below a block.
  • Changed crafting recipes: the ladder recipe now yields 3 ladders (was 2), the slab recipe now yield 6 slabs (was 3)
  • Rare drops for mobs were added
  • Zombies now break wooden doors on hard difficulty and sometimes swarm towns.
  • The debug view (F3) was extended. It now shows biome names and brightness information
  • Vines can now be climbed

Bug fixes

  • Lights at a height of 255 (fixed in 1.2.3)
  • Zombies sometimes do not burn in daylight (fixed in 1.2.3)
  • Pine, birch and large tree generation (fixed in 1.2.2)
  • Snow does not appear on maps (fixed in 1.2.2)
  • Double doors now work correctly with redstone
  • Ambience noise works in multiplayer
  • Mob spawners now show the correct mob in multiplayer
  • Many more…
